And with this commercialism, comes inflated prices for everyday stuff.
Be it socks, alcohol or tools, it's almost always twice the price during special seasons, then any other day.
So I thought I'd help you out with some gift ideas that are also affordable.
Before you stress about what dad would think; I'm pretty sure he'd be impressed with your money-saving abilities. ;)
Gift Sets
Now before you shoot this idea down, here's the reason I listed this. Usually gift sets are packed with random stuff, half of which your dad might use, and the rest he wouldn't. But there is a great place that I have previously written about, the Excess Factory Shop, that do amazing gift sets, which you are allowed to build according to your preference and price range. These are personalised sets, which are way more affordable than power tools. You can read more about the Excess Factory Shop in my review here.

Clothing
So you may think that clothing isn't the best gift. But I know first hand from my dad, my husband and my father in law that a lot of men do not like to shop for themselves. They hate the idea of shopping, or going to try on clothing and would rather wear shirts and socks with holes in them, then go out and buy new stuff. If your dad usually wears brands (thanks to mum), don't stress.
The beauty of factory shopping is that there are tons of brand factory shops all over Durban. If its surfing brands you're looking for, head on over to Beyond The Beach on Matthews Meyiwa Road (old Stamford Hill Road), with brands such as Fox and Quicksilver retailing for half the original price. But if dad isn't brand conscious then head over to Clear Outs on Sylvester Ntuli Road (old Brickhill Road) which sells Mr Price clothing at extremely affordable prices. More on Clearouts here.
Random Goodies
If your dad is fun-loving and quirky, the best place to get affordable gifts for him is The Crazy Store. I did a review on them a while back, and boy do they bring the discounts to the factory shopping party! They have everything from World's Best Day trophies to Super Dad beer glasses. There's also some practical items such as stationery sets and tool boxes. You can take a look at all of their Father's Day offers here.
